Martinsville, West Virginia Modernization Project

Introduction

Safety Resources, Inc. provided safety oversight for Essroc Cement Corporation in Martinsville, West Virginia.  Essroc is an Italian company, and this project lasted for a period of three (3) years.

Supporting Information

This project was a $500 million investment, including an acquisition and upgrade of operations.  Beginning June, 2006 and wrapping up in April of 2009, Safety Resources represented this owner and wrote the contractor safety management program while providing safety supervision and representation of all site contractors.

The Challenge

This project focused on a large expansion with over 1,000 contractor employees, as well as a significantly high incident rate from the start.

Successes

Working closely with the local management team, we developed consistent field level risk assessment processes and delivered one-on-one training, significantly reducing the incident rate year over year.  By the end of the project, completion results recorded 1.4 million hours with zero incidents.
