Everyone, usually, understands or can spot a visible hazard within the home, yet most families, even those with “safety-minded” individuals at home, still encounter significant misfortunes. “50% of all accidental deaths in the home are caused by a fall. Most fall injuries in the home happen at ground level, not from an elevation.” (NFSI)

Complacency, or this “False Sense of Predictability,” is a mindset seen on the construction sites, and unfortunately with family and loved ones. Usually, simple reminders or checklists around the house can mitigate the 3 Most Common Hazards for your Family & Home:

Along with Family & Home Safety – 3 Most Common Hazards, please be mindful of the following initiatives you can take for your family moving onward through the 2022 year:

  1. FIRST AID KITS are essential for all households and should be inspected (every few months and re-stocked, as needed) and fully stocked, including: bandages, antiseptic, pain relievers and tweezers. Keep your kit in a KNOWN location.
  2. POSIONING can happen at a moments notice. Protecting and controlling access is key. If any members of your family have ingested or encountered any hazardous chemical/poison, contact Poison Control (800) 222-1222.
  3. CHOKING hazards are common during family get-togethers, and especially with smaller children or pets. Routine sweeps and inspections of the entire house can reduce these mishaps. Knowing the Heimlich maneuver or abdominal thrusts can treat an chokes or obstructions.

Be prepared for hazards in your home. Hazard Analysis do not stop when you are “off the clock.” If anything, we are more comfortable, visa vi more complacent. Accident and injuries can happen anywhere. Home is your “safe place.” Make it that way, not only for you, but the future.
